On Sunday, the Spanish LA Liga released a statement that Lionel Messi’s FC Barcelona contract was still very valid.
This announcement was made hours after Lionel Messi failed to attend the preseason medicals on Sunday.
The LA Liga, which is the ruling body made known that the only way for the Argentine star to be freed from the existing contract was to trigger a 700 million euros release clause.
“In compliance with the applicable rule, LA Liga will not approve a request to be deregistered as a player with the Spanish football federation, ilunless the amount in the release clause has been paid,” La Liga said in a statement.
It was reported and confirmed that Lionel Messi failed to attend the medical with FC Barcelona on Sunday.
Reuters on Sunday showed other Barcelona players arriving for the covid-19 test on Sunday morning but Messi was not captured.
He had had been due at the FC Barcelona training ground at 10:15 a.m. local time.
Lionel messi, a six-times world player of the year informed his lifelong club on Tuesday he wished to exit the club immediately.
His foreseen but unexpected demand has threw Barcelona into disarray in less than two weeks after Bayern Munich defeated the giant club to a 8-2 Champions League quarter final.
The Argentine’s lawyers plan to invoke a clause in his four-year contract signed in the year 2017.
A success to have that happen would have allowed the Argentine to exit the club for free if he had demanded for it by June 10.
This is a strong war between Lionel Messi who is yet to let anything out of his mouth and the Barcelona management.
If it is required of the player to be freed only on the basis of the £700, it is possible that no club will want to part with such an amount.
The world waits for what will finally happen. One of the parties (Lionel Messi and Barcelona Management) would have its way but who it’d be, the world seems not to know just yet.
